Typically, the winter months are not the most ideal time to put your house on the market. Inclement weather tends to discourage would-be buyers from venturing out.

Here a few tips to help make your property hot, even on the coldest days.

Clear A Path | Keep the driveway, walk, and steps clear of snow, even if the snow is still falling. Sprinkle a layer of sand or salt over them and create a pathway from the street to the sidewalk so potential buyers don’t have to step into or over a snowbank.

Let the Light In and Turn Up the Heat | Open all the blinds, push back the drapes and turn on all the lights, including the lights on your appliances and in closets. Turn up the thermostat to ensure the temperature is comfortable, especially on a cold day. If you have a fireplace, light it up. Don’t forget to open the damper and place a screen in front of it.

Make Everything Shine | Clean your house from top to bottom. Cobwebs in corners, light fixtures, and ceiling fan blades often get missed.

Set the Mood | Make rooms, especially your living room feel warm, cozy and inviting. Create a feeling of romance by setting your dining room table for two. Add two champagne glasses and a bottle of champagne in a bucket on a side table.

Easy Does It | Go easy on the scents and air fresheners. Simmer spices in water on the stove to create that warm, seasonal scent.

A Reason to Linger | Offer hot apple cider and hot cocoa with simple finger foods such as petit fours, different cheeses, grapes, and pear slices.
